Timeline for Wedding Invitations – When to Start and When to Send
This is our no-frills timeline for wedding invitations. Find out when you should start creating your invitations, send Save the Dates, and mail our your wedding invitations. Want a printable version? Go here!
10-11 months before event
Begin thinking about event theme/invitation design and if buying (instead of DIY) invitations, order samples.
Send out Save the Dates.*
*Save the Dates usually go out before you really start to get into wedding planning, so don’t worry about matching your Save the Dates to whatever design you decide to go with for your invitations.
5 months before event
Have a preliminary guest list and gather all guest addresses.
4 months before event
If you have guests who are traveling long distance, send their invitations at least 16 weeks in advance to give them ample time to make travel arrangements, book flights, etc. Same goes for destination weddings.
8-12 weeks before event
Send out invitations!
4-6 weeks before event
Send out rehearsal dinner invites.
